Like any activity, humans learn operational techniques and learn how to apply those techniques once they are mastered.
Think of any sport: first you learn the basics, next, you practice, then you learn how to win. You commit the basics to muscle memory so that your brain can focus on the application of those skills within the context of the game you're playing.
Your brain works by trying to match what's going on now with what has happened previously in order to speed up decisions. If you can predict what your opponent will do, winning becomes easier. Driving works the same way.
The difference is that driving on public roads is not a game, it is a deadly serious, unforgiving playing field. Get it wrong and the consequences for both yourself and others on the road can be profound and long-lasting.
I will teach you driving techniques, road-craft strategies and hazard mitigation. I will pass on my experience so that you and your passengers can drive, survive and thrive.
About Me
To be honest, it's not about me. I've tried to make my students the centre of this website, because I've always believed that it's the learning outcomes experienced by the students that really matters.
I was the kid who took stuff apart and spent all his pocket money on screwdrivers and socket sets. I learned to drive as soon as I could reach the pedals. I was lucky, because my father worked at a road transport company and I was allowed to practice in their yard. Driving was more difficult back then; no automatic gearboxes, no power-steering, no computers and so on. By the age of nine, I had mastered double de-clutching, could reverse semi-trailers and I loved it.
I try to leverage my road driving, race driving and university teaching to get my students over the initial learning curve and onto the road. When you're driving alone, at night, in freezing fog or in pouring rain, being equipped with the best set of techniques increases your chance of staying safe.
I would really like to help you learn the skills that I have acquired over the years. Get in touch via email or book an hour lesson and we can take it from there.
If I've managed to put you off and you don't fancy learning from me, that's ok! Just, please, make sure you choose some other top quality instructor to teach you how to drive. There are some crazy people out there, please do everything you can to avoid becoming a road-toll statistic.
